All in the Family

All in the Family

Tune: Flash Jack from Gundagai (Trad.)

We’re related to gorillas and we’re kin to chimpanzees,
Finding links to orang-utans is nothing but a breeze,
The baboons are our cousins, the resemblance is quite plain,
But that doesn’t count one little bit when all we want is gain.

Chorus:    Chop down all the trees, boys, chop down all the trees,
Burn down what you please, boys, burn down what you please,
We can destroy a habitat even if we don’t try
And make the biggest smoke haze that’s ever filled the sky.

We stem from far back hominids who came from Africa,
We formed a range of species, not all were up to par,
Neanderthal, Zinjanthropus, Australopithecus,
We exterminated the lot of them because they weren’t like us.

Chorus

And when we’ve no more rellies, there’s always us to kill,
We’ll find some little difference with quite unerring skill,
And then we’ll start the slaughter and count the dead with glee,
‘Cos any other living thing is a threat to one like me.

Chorus

We were an extended family but now we’re really small,
Too many poor relations, we don’t get on at all,
They don’t need much persuasion to die without a fuss,
Who wouldn’t want to be extinct with relatives like us?

Chorus
